UMBC Heading Back to ACHA Regionals
February 14, 2017
After two seasons of key player injuries and missing out on the ACHA postseason, UMBC is back in the ACHA Regional playoffs! Rankings have just been released and UMBC came in at #10 in the Southeast rankings. As long as no unranked team wins the MACH or the TSCHL (Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League) playoffs next weekend, UMBC will head to Regionals in Lynchburg, VA. If UMBC wins the MACH playoffs, they will guarantee their regional spot.
According to Coach Pelus, "we are thrilled to get back to Regionals, these guys worked hard all season and definitely deserve it." He added, "Despite having a losing record, we were able to maintain a top 10 ranking based on our strength of schedule which was the fourth toughest in the Southeast."
When UMBC faces off against Maryland on Friday, the Retrievers can help their Regional bid by knocking off the Terps, ending their season and ensuring Maryland cannot win the MACH and take the Retriever&rsquos spot in the ACHA Regionals.
The Retrievers could know as early as Saturday if their Regional spot is secure.
The Regional field and matchups will be set Sunday night.
